Probiotics What are they? What do they do? How to find the right one? "Human-derived sources" for probiotics are the key to healthy success.
Probiotics are any bacteria that confer health benefits. Good vs Bad intestinal bacteria … Probiotics that contain 100% human strains of microflora are by far the most compatible with our digestive tract. They have the ability to colonize and multiply within the gastrointestinal tract where as other forms (from dairy or plants) sometimes fail to stick to the intestinal wall or simply die off after ingestion. Now this might be TMI (too much information) but, according to Mary Ellen Sanders, PhD, an internationally recognized consultant in probiotic microbiology, some probiotics (but not all) are isolated from human feces … and, believe or not, this is a good - and healthy - thing! Sanders gives an example of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, a probiotic that was isolated from human feces in 1983 and is now used widely used in products such as buttermilk, yogurt, milk, fruit drinks, 'daily dose' drinks and fermented whey-based drinks.
